| Federalist | Favored a strong federal government. |
| Anti Federalist | People who opposed the constitution. |
| Articles of Confederation | Created a loose alliance of the 13 independent states. |
| Popular Sovereignty | States that the people have the right to alter or abolish their government. |
| Constitution | the documents that set out the basic laws, principles, organization, and process of a government. |
