Amendment change or addition designed to improve something
13th Amendment Abolishes slavery in all of the United States
Reconstruction a plan to re-admit the south to the union under agreed upon conditions, while enforcing civil rights.
Freedman’s Bureau Created by Congress to help poor whites and freed slaves. Assisted with: food, clothing, employment, education, protection against Ku Klux Klan, reuniting families separated during slavery
Sharecropper a tenant farmer who cultivates farmland and gives a part of each crop as rent to the farm owner
Radical representing or supporting an extreme or progressive section of a political party
Black Codes Laws that limited the rights of black people after slavery was abolished
Impeach the process of bringing charges against a government official for wrongdoing
14th Amendment Granted citizenship to all persons born in the United States and guaranteed all citizens “equal protection of the laws.”
15th Amendment This amendment sought to protect the voting rights of Black men after the Civil War, guaranteed the right to vote to all males regardless or race
