Dietary Guidelines united states government recommendations for patterns of eating that will promote health, reduce risk of chronic disease, and meet nutrient needs
Nutrient-dense Foods foods that provide vitamins, minerals, and other health-promoting components and have little saturated fats, added sugars, and sodium
MyPlate Food Guidance System united states government system that helps people put the dietary guidelines into practice
Undernutrition condition that results from people not taking in enough nutrients for health and growth
Overnutrition condition that results from people eating too many foods that contain high amounts of added sugar, solid fat, sodium, refined carbohydrates, or simply too many calories
Body Composition ratio of the various components-fat, bone, and muscle- that make up a person's body
Body Mass Index (BMI) tool used to determine whether a person's weight is healthy for that person's height
Overweight condition of excess body weight from fat, bone, muscle, water, or a combination of these factors
Obesity condition of excess body fat or excessive overweight
Underweight condition of a body weight that is too low compared with others of the same sex and age
Body Image thoughts and feelings about how one's body looks
Weight Stigma flawed belief that having a thinner body or lower weight is always better
Disordered Eating range of irregular eating behaviors with negative health consequences
Eating Disorder mental illness that causes major disturbances in a person's daily diet
