Harpoon | A barbed spear, used for hunting large fish |
Hieroglyphics | Writing made up of photographic (picture) symbols |
Khemet | Ancient Egyptian name for their land (It means “black land”) |
Levees | A bank (high pile of dirt) built along a river to prevent flooding |
Mummification | The process of preserving the bodies of the dead |
Nobles | People belonging to a high class that has special social or political status |
Obelisks | A four-sided pillar that ends in a pyramid, used as a monument |
Papyrus | A plant that is made into strips and pressed into material on which a person can write |
Peasants | People in a low ranking social class, who worked in the fields |
Pharaoh | The ruler of ancient Egypt |
Pyramid | A huge structure that was used as a tomb for the Egyptian Pharaoh and high officials |
Shaduf | A device for lifting water |
Social Pyramid | Shows each social class in level of importance |
Sphinx | Ancient Egyptian monument with the body of a lion and the head of a man |
Vizier | A high official in the government |
