| Bill of Rights | A list of freedoms that the government promises to protect |
| Articles of Confederation | A loose alliance of 13 independent states |
| Constitutional Convention | Opened on May 25, 1787 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its purpose was to revise the Articles of Confederation. |
| Republic | A government in which citizens rule themselves through elected representatives. |
| Federalist Papers | A series of essays, whose purpose was to explain and defend the Constitution. |

| bill | a proposal for a new law |
| Cabinet | The group of officials who head government departments and advise the President |
| Civic Virtue | The willingness to work for the good of the nation or community even at great sacrifice |
