Why didn't the continental army allow African Americans to join earlier in the war? They were afraid to give weapons to slaves and Blacks for fear of revolt
Why did the Americans eventually allow slaves and free blacks to fight? they were desperate for fighters
What was the British attitude toward slaves belonging to Patriots? Runaways would be protected and allowed to join the army. Not runaways would be captured and sold in the West Indies.
What was the British attitude toward slaves belonging to loyalists? They were allowed to fight but returned to their owners.
At the end of the war, the Americans did what with free blacks and slaves? Free blacks were allowed to leave. Slaves were returned to slavery.
At the end of the war, the British did what with free blacks and slaves? Many left with the British and settled in Nova Scotia in Canada or Sierra Leone in Africa.
