Who were the Patriots (Whigs) loyal to? The american Colonies
The Loyalists (Tories) were loal to whom? Britain and King George III
What was the French and Indian War (who fought and who won)? The French, with the help of the American Indians fought against the British. The British won.
What happened to Georgia's borders when england won the French and Indian War? It extended to the Mississippi River to the west and the St. Mary's River (per the Proclamation of 1763)
Why did the colonists get so mad with the king when he issued the Proclamation of 1763? It did not allow or forbade the American colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. Instead, the land was given to the Natives to avoid another war.
What benefit did the Proclamation of 1763 give Georgia? The southern border of Georgia was extended to the St. Mary's River gaining more coastal land for shipping, new farmland, and natural resources (ex. timber).
Why did England start taxing the colonies? To pay for their debt from the French and Indian War
What did the Stamp Act tax? Any paper documents used by the colonists (newspapers, legal documents, cards, etc.) must have a stamp and be taxed.
What was the name of Georgia's Patriots group that developed because of the Stamp Act and was a branch of the Sons of Liberty? The Liberty Boys who would plan protests against acts placed on the colonists.
What did the British Parliament do when they found out the colonists were protesting about the Stamp Act? They repealed the Stamp Act
What does "No Taxation without Representation" mean? The American colonists were being taxed by Britain while there was no colonial representation in the British Parliament.
What did the victory at Kettle Creek allow the Patriots to get? British troops vacated Augusta briefly and it boosted the morale of the Patriots when the Georgia Militia won against the British. Patriots took needed weapons and horses from the British.
Describe the Siege of Savannah and the reason the British wanted it. The 2nd bloodiest battle of the American Revolution. Despite the help from the French, American Patriots lost to the British. Patriots tried to recover Savannah but the British blocked the port so they couldn't receive supplies from other countries.
What country helped the American colonists to win their independence from England? France
Name two reasons that Georgia was reluctant to get involved in the American Revolution. They had prospered under the king's rule, especially with trade and some Georgians still had family ties to England.

Why did the american colonists decide to write the Declaration and create their own government? They were tired of the tyranny of the king and felt England was being oppressive.
What three Georgians signed the Declaration of Independence? Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, and George Walton
What was the name of the first U.S. Constitution (1st plan of government)? The Articles of Confederation
Why did the U.S. government have financial problems while under Articles of Confederation? Each state was allowed to use its own currency; the government couldn't impose taxes so they couldn't pay off debt; the government couldn't regulate trade among the states so they could put tariffs on each other.
What was the strength of the Articles of Confederation? It made a strong central (state).
How did the Second Continental Congress try to make sure America would not have a central government that abused its power? They created a weak central government and gave more power to the states according to the Articles of Confederation.
What was discussed at the Constitutional Convention? Members discarded the Articles and wrote a completely new document (U.S. Constitution). Debated states' representation in Congress which led to the creation of a bicameral legislature; 3 branches of government with checks and balances system.
