oocysts become sporocysts which can be airborne inhaled
toxoplasma gondii congenitally transmitted from mom to baby thru placenta Tox Factor
Toxoplasma Gondii Sx: arrests embryonic development, brain damage, congenital defects, accumulation of CSF, abnormally small head, blindness, uveitis, mental retardation, disorders of mvmt, still birth, spontaneous abortion, encephalitis, skin problems
toxoplasma gondii linked to schizophrenia (over50% of schizophrenics & mothers test (+) for toxoplasmosis
Toxoplasmosis Sx: depends on age, tyhoid like (fever & chills), major problem w/ AIDS patients
Toxoplasmosis Dx: parasites in blood, CSF, or tissues, inmmunofluorescence, sabin feldman dye test
Toxoplasmosis Rx: pyrimethamine & trisulfapyridine
Toxoplasmosis prevention pregnant women should avoid contact w/raw meat & cat feces
Babesiosis types Babesia Gigemina & Babesia Microti
Babesia Gigemina cattle are affected
Babesia Microti assoc. w/human infections
Babesiosis transmitted by tick bites & invade & multiply in RBCs
Babesiosis Sx high fever, headache, mm. pain, anemia & jaundice can occur as RBCs are destroyed; fatal in person w/o spleen
Babesiosis Dx blood smear

Babesiosis prevention prevent tick bites
