Capital Resources Tools, machines, (money) that companies use to produce goods and services
First Industrial Revolution In Great Britain due to coal and steam-powered engines (boats and trains); 1760s - 1830s
Second Industrial Revolution In the U.S. due to rise in steel, auto and electric products; 1870- 1914
Capitalism A system in which trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit
innovation a new idea, method or product.
industrialization to develop new factories or businesses on a large scale.
mass production making large amounts of items cheaply and quickly.
profit money that is made after paying for expenses.
goods a product that a person or a company makes for someone else.
textiles a type of cloth or woven fabric.
inventor a person who created a new device or process.
entrepreneur a person who runs or owns a business.
northeast the part of the U.S. by Canada and the Atlantic Ocean.
South the southern part of the U.S.
Industrial Revolution the changes in manufacturing and transportation where machines replaced hand tools.
Midwest the area of the U.S. near the Great Lakes and Upper Mississippi River Valley.
transportation system the different ways to move people or goods from one location to another.
manufacture to make something, usually in large amounts, by using machines.
West the westernmost region of the U.S.
