| Continental Congress | The legislative assembly composed of delegates from the rebel colonies who met during and after the American Revolution |
| Natural Rights | The idea that all humans are born with rights, which include the right to life, liberty, and property (or pursuit of happiness) |
| Declaration of Independence | Document that declared American independence from Britain |
| Continental Army | The American army during the American Revolution |
| Guerilla Warfare | A hit-and-run technique used in fighting a war; fighting by small bands of warriors using tactics such as sudden ambushes |
| Battle of Saratoga | American victory over British troops in 1777 that was a turning point in the American Revolution. |
| Battle of Yorktown | 1781 American victory in Virginia that forced the British to surrender |
| Treaty of Paris (1783) | This treaty ended the Revolutionary War and recognized the independence of the American colonies. |
