Climate and Ecosystems

TermDefinition
Climate The average weather in a place over many years.
Weather The condition of the air and sky at a certain time and place.
Tropics Low latitudes: between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Hot all year long.
Temperate Zone Middle latitudes: Hot summer, cold winter, moderate spring and fall.
Water Cycle The movement of water from Earth’s surface to the atmosphere and back again.
Prevailing Winds Winds that most frequently blow across a region.
Tropical Cyclone An intense rainstorm with strong winds that forms over oceans in the tropics.
Biome Regions on Earth that are made up of similar communities of plants and animals.
Ecosystem A group of plants and animals that depend on one another for survival.
