Precedent An earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances
Charter A written grant by a country's legislative or sovereign power, by which a body such as a company, college, or city is founded and its rights and privileges are defined
Tobbaco The plant of the nightshade family which yields to tobacco
Setttlement A place, typically one that has hitherto been uninhabited, where people establish a community
Assembly The action of gathering together as a group for a common purpose
Persecution hostility and ill treatment
Pilgrim A member of a group of English Puritans fleeing religious persecution who sailed in the Mayflower and founded the colony of Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620
Cash Crop A crop produced for it's commercial value rather than for use by the grower
Quaker A member of the religious Society of Friends, a Christian movement founded by George Fox c. 1650 and devoted to peaceful principles
Proprietary Colony A colony granted to some individual or individuals with the fullest prerogatives of government
Royal Colony A colony governed directly by the crown through a governor and council appointed by it
Joint Stock Company A company or association consisting of individuals organized to conduct a business for gain and having a joint stock of capital represented by shares owned individually by the members and transferrable without the consent of the group
