| Artifact | usually a simple object such as a tool or ornament showing human work and representing a culture or stage in the development of a culture |

| Agriculture | The raising of crops and animals |
| Old Stone Age | Paleolithic Age |
| Fossils | remains impression or trace of a living thing of a former geologic age, such as a skeleton or footprint |

| Migration | movement from one country place or locality to another |
| Surplus | An extra supply of food |
| New Stone Age | Neolithic Age |
| Neolithic Revolution | A fundamental change in the way people went from hunting and gathering to agriculture. Led to permanent settlements |
| Nomadic | having no fixed home and moving according to the seasons from place to place in search of food, water and grazing land |
| Obsidian | A dark natural glass that forms when hot molten or semifluid rock when a volcano cools |
| Specialization | The development of different jobs |
| Ice age | The time period that consisted of long periods of extreme cold weather that began around 100,000 B.C. and lasted till about 8000 B.C. |
| Sedentary | staying or living in one place instead of moving to different places |
| Tribal | a group of people that include many families and relatives who have the same language, customs, beliefs and leader. |
| Turning point | an important moment of change (Neolithic Revolution) |
| Domestication | the training of plants and animals to help humans |
| Catal Huyuk | Neolithic site in present day turkey |
| Neolithic | later part of the stone age when people used polished stone weapons |
| Paleolithic | early phase of the stone age, lasting about 2.5 million years, when primative stone implements were used |
