QuestionAnswer
Describe the change in population and number of states between 1780 and 1830 in America. There was about 2.7 million people living in thirteen states in America in 1780 and 12 million people living in 24 states in America in 1830.
What are the four major points in the Monroe document? The US would not be involved in internal affairs with European nations, they recognized the colonies in the west, they did not permit further colonization of the western hemisphere, and if that were to happen, it would be seen as a hostile act.
What legal changed helped to get Andrew Jackson elected in 1828? The allowing of men who did not own property to vote.
Why was South Carolina upset by the Tariff of 1828? What did they try to do to avoid this tax? They were upset because this tariff forced the south to pay high taxes. South Carolina tried to nullify this tariff.
What was the purpose of the Indian Removal Act? The purpose was to allow Andrew Jackson to give land to Native Americans in the Louisiana Purchase for their land in the East.
How did the Cherokee attempt to prevent their removal? They believed that they had adopted more white culture than any other tribe and tried to take their case to the supreme court.
What was the ultimate result of the Indian Removal Act? Five tribes were forcibly removed from their land to Indian Territory which lead to many of their deaths during the Trail of Tears.
Why were so many citizens and Andrew Jackson against the 2nd National Bank of the US? They saw it as a monster institution controlled by a small group of wealthy easterners.
What political change and change in rules allowed the US to create ties with the former Spanish colonies in the Southwest? Mexico became independent from Spain and thus Mexico loosed the rules on trade that affected American merchants.
What is the importance of the Alamo? The importance was to show the fight and sacrifice for independence.
