This is to help me study my social studies vocab.

| lode | a rich vein of gold, silver, or other valuable ore |
| vigilante | a self-appointed enforcer of the law |
| subsidy | a land grant or other financial help from the government |
| consolidate | to combine |
| rebate | a discount |
| pool | a system in which several railroad companies agreed to divide up the business in an area and set prices |
| Morril Acts | the acts passed in 1862 and 1890 that provided public land for agricultural colleges |
| sodbuster | a farmer on the Great Plains in the late 1800s |
| wholesale | the buying or selling of something in large quantities at lower prices |
| mechanization | to change a process or action so it is performed with machines |
| tepee | a tent made by stretching buffalo skins on tall poles |
| reservation | a limited area of land set aside for Native Americans |
| allotment | an amount of something, such as land, distributed to a person |
| stock | a share of ownership in a corporation |
| corporation | business that is owned by investors whose risk of loss is limited |
| trust | group of corporations run by a single board of directors |
| monopoly | a company or group having control of all or nearly all of the business of an industry |
| capitalism | an economic system based on private ownership of property, a market economy, and the goal of making a profit, or income, from the use of one's property |
| scarcity | a shortage, lack, or insufficient supply |
| sweatshop | workplace where people labor long hours in poor conditions for low pay |
