| region | an area that shares physical and human characteristics |
| landform | a natural feature of the earth's surface. |
| climate | usual, predictable pattern of weather in an area over a long period of time |
| Equator | an imaginary line that extends around the center of the Earth |
| Latitude lines | lines that are evenly spaced and extend around the globe. They measure distances north and south of the Equator |
| Longitude lines | imaginary lines that are evenly spaced that measure distances east and west of the prime meridian |
| Prime Meridian | 0 degrees longitude |
| hemisphere | half of a sphere |
| relative location | where a place is located in relation to another place |
| Physical map | A map that shows mountains, hills, plains, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc. |
| relief map | a map that shows the elevation of an area using colors or shading |
| plain | a large area of flat land |
| elevation | height above sea level |
| elevation map | a map that shows the height of land above sea level |
| regions map | Shows areas that share similar physical or human characteristics |
| historical map | show a particular time from the past |
| drought | a long period without rainfall |
| current events | Events that are in the news |
| globe | a model of the earth |
| absolute location | the exact location of a place |
