TermDefinition
delegate A person who represents others, often an elected official
constitution A plan of government, usually written, but may be oral
compromise People on both sides of an issue, giving up something to reach an agreement
preamble An introduction
separation of powers The idea that the powers and duties of government are divided among separate branches
veto A refusal to sign a bill into a law
checks and balances A system where each branch of government has ways of limiting the powers of the other branches
