TermDefinition
latitude The east west parallel lines in a grid. measure distance north and south of the equator.
longitude The north south meridian lines in a grid. Measure east and west of the prime meridian.
equator An imaginary line encircling the earth equally divides the north and south poles.
prime meridian Imaginary line that passes through the north and south pole. It shows 0 degrees longitude.
continents 7 great land masses of the world. Africa, Asia, Antarctica, Australia, Europe, North america, and south america.
Geography The study of the earths physical and cultural features.
landform The natural features of the earths surface.
climate The average weather conditions in a certain area over a period of time
environment all the living and nonliving things that affect life in an area.
region an area with one or more features that make it different from surrounding areas.
Resources the materials found on earth that people need and value
diffusion the spread of people, ideas, things from diseases from place to place
compass rose A circle showing the principal directions printed on a map or chart.
cartography the science or practice of maps.
