| Civilization | a group of people living together who have systems of government, religion, and culture |
| Pueblo | a Spanish word for town |

| Potlatch | a large feast that will last several days |
| clan | a group of related families |
| Irrigation | a way of supplying water to crops with streams, ditches and pipes |
| Staple | a main crop that is used for food |
| Ceremony | a formal event at which people gather for important beliefs |
| Lodge | a type of home that Plains Indians made using pole, bark, earth, and grass |
| Nomad | a person who moves around a lot and does not live in one place |
| Travois | a type of sled formerly used by North American Indians to carry goods, consisting of two joined poles pulled by a horse or dog |
