What are the 6 land regions of SC? Blue Ridge, Piedmont, Sandhills, Inner Coastal Plains, Outer Coastal Plains, and Coastal zone
What are the 4 river systems of SC? Savannah, Edisto, Santee, and Pee Dee
How did native Americans gather food after they stopped following there food? through the use of agriculture/farming, fishing, hunting smaller game, tribes were able to transition from being hunter gathers to establishing permanent settlements
In what ways were the Native American tribes similar? lived in villages surrounded by palisades, believed that land was not something you could own, and they utilized their natural resources and wasted very little
Why did the Native American's use palisades? To protect their villages from wild animals and /or people who might want to harm them.
What are the "three sisters" and what is their importance? Pole beans, squash, and corn. their importance is this was the main staple for many tribes, they would grow all three in the same soil area in order to maximize space.
What natural resources did SC native tribes use to build their homes, fish, hunted, and how they protected there home? Build homes: trees, limbs, leaves, clay, mud Fished and hunted: spears made of wood with projectile points, bows and arrows, traps, and bark to poison the water to stun and collect fish Protected villages: palisades made of wood
Where did Southeastern Woodlands tribes typically setter? Why? settle near water so that they could use the water for fishing, bathing, trading, ect. it would be used in their daily lives.
In the beginning, what ere the Europeans searching for why they started exploration? a water route to Asia (also called the Northwest Passage)

Who was already living in the Americas when Europeans first arrived? Native Americans
