| alliance | A formal agreement among groups or individuals to make an agreement to fight together if the need arises. |
| delegates | Representatives sent from an area who represent the people's interests from that area. |
| Parliament | Law making, or legislative branch of the British government. |
| proclamation | A public announcement |
| budget | A plan for spending money |
| Benjamin Franklin | A delegate from Pennsylvania that called for all the colonies to unite and fight the French. |
| George Washington | A 21 year old Virginian sent to lead 150 soldiers to take control of the Ohio Valley. Built Fort Necessity but was attacked by the French and Native Americans and ultimately surrendered. |
| Fort Necessity | A fort built by George Washington and his troops to protect themselves from French and Indian soldiers in the Ohio Valley. |
| Ohio Valley | The region that stretches along the Ohio River from the Appalachian Mountains to Mississippi River. |
| Albany | The Capital of the colony of New York. |
| representation | Having someone to speak or vote for you. |
| treason | Working against your own government |
| congress | A formal meeting of representatives |

| imperial policies | laws and orders issued by a king and the Parliament |

| Patrick Henry | A member of Virginia's House of Burgesses that wanted Virginia to join the New England colonies in a war with Britain. |
| Samuel Adams | Organized the first Committee of Correspondence in Boston. |
| Crispus Attucks | An African American Sailor killed by British Troops in the Boston Massacre. |
| Paul Revere | A Boston Silversmith who created an engraving of the Boston Massacre that was distributed in the colonies to show what happened. |
| King George III | Ruler of England that felt that the colonists should be taxed in order to help pay for the costs of the French and Indian War. |
