Road Safety

10 basic rules about road safety

QuestionAnswer
Always Use Sidewalks: Walk on the sidewalk whenever available. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic.
Cross at Crosswalks Cross the road at designated crosswalks, pedestrian crossings, or traffic signals. Wait for the green signal or the "walk" sign.
Look Both Ways Before crossing any road, look left, right, and left again to make sure there is no oncoming traffic.
No Distractions Avoid using smartphones, listening to loud music, or any other distractions while walking near or crossing roads.
Obey Traffic Signs: Learn and obey traffic signs, signals, and road markings. Understand what they mean and follow their instructions.
Always Swim with Adult Supervision Always ensure there is a responsible adult or a certified lifeguard present when swimming in pools, lakes, or other bodies of water.
Learn to Swim: Enroll in swimming lessons and learn how to swim properly.
Follow Pool Rules: These rules often include no running, no diving in shallow areas, and no rough play around the pool area.
Be Aware of Water Depth Never dive headfirst into unknown or shallow water, as this can lead to serious injuries.
Use Safety Equipment If necessary, use appropriate safety equipment, such as life jackets or floatation devices, especially when swimming in open water or unfamiliar environments.
Obey Rip Current Warnings Learn about rip currents and how to recognize them. Stay calm and swim parallel to the shore if caught in a rip current, rather than trying to swim against it.
