Cybersecurity The practice of protecting computer systems, networks, and data from theft, damage, or unauthorized access.
Virus A type of malware that can replicate itself and spread to other computers, often causing harm or disruption.
Malware Short for "malicious software," malware is software designed to harm or exploit computer systems and their users.
Phishing A cyberattack where attackers trick individuals into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card numbers, by posing as a trusted entity.
Firewall A security barrier that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic to protect against unauthorized access.
Encryption The process of converting data into a code to prevent unauthorised access, ensuring that only authorized parties can read it.
Password A secret combination of characters used to authenticate and gain access to a computer, system, or account.
Authentication The process of verifying the identity of a user, device, or system before granting access.
Cyberattack An intentional, malicious action taken to compromise computer systems or steal sensitive information.
Antivirus Software Programs designed to detect and remove viruses and other types of malware from computer systems.
Data Breach An incident where sensitive or confidential information is exposed or accessed by unauthorised individuals.
Patch A software update designed to fix security vulnerabilities and improve system performance.
Cyber Hygiene Good practices for using computers and the internet safely, including regularly updating software and using strong, unique passwords.
Digital Footprint The trace of online activity left by an individual, which can include social media posts, online purchases, and more.
Cyberbullying The use of digital communication tools, such as social media or messaging apps, to harass or intimidate others.
Ransomware A type of malware that encrypts a victim's files and demands a ransom for their release.
Network Security The practice of safeguarding a computer network infrastructure from unauthorized access or attacks.
Backup Creating copies of important data and files to protect against data loss due to cyberattacks or hardware failures.
Secure Socket Layer (SSL) A protocol that ensures secure data transmission over the internet, commonly used for online shopping and banking.
