Civilizations

A study guide for an assignment I have to complete.

TermDefinitionExamples
Civilization A culture that has the characteristics of a civilization (government, religion, stable food supply, technology, writing, art, and social structure). The state of Indiana.
Government A system used to maintain order in a civilization that used to be in the form of kings, pharaohs, and government officials, but now is up to the people in elections. Me, when I'm eventually 18, being able to vote in elections.
Religion A system of beliefs that used to be only polytheistic, but now commonly monotheistic. Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and more.
Stable Food Supply There is enough food for everyone, making it less of a need for farmers and more opportunity for different jobs. My family having the privilege to have enough food for everyone, leaving no one hungry.
Technology Made up of tools and ideas, but more commonly used to improve past inventions. My phone.
Writing Used to maintain records and implies that a common language is used throughout the said civilization. The library in our school which supports the idea that everyone in the state of Indiana is able to speak a common language - English.
Art (Architecture) Used to express the values of a said civilization, and in past times usually in the form of statues or monuments. Our school that bustles with students contributes to the belief that education is important to many.
Social Structure Groupings in a civilization, usually based on jobs, but in past times especially, a class/ranking system was used. The social structure between me and my parents; since they are older, they have more authority over me, an adolescent.
