| Autocracy | A form of government in which a single person holds unlimited political power; low citizen participation |
| Democracy | A form of government controlled by its citizens, either directly or through representatives; all citizens can participate |
| Oligarchy | A form of government ruled by a few powerful people; a few citizens participate |
| Presidential Democracy | Form of government in which people vote for most things, including the leader, called president |
| Parliamentary Democracy | Form of government in which people vote for the legislature. The legislature selects the prime minister. |
| Prime Minister | the head of an elected government in a parliamentary system |
| Legislature | A branch of government who have the power to make laws |
| Head of State | Serves as the representative of that country to the world. Ceremonial leader like the British monarch |
| Head of Government | The person in this role has political power. Decision Maker (President or Prime Minister) |
| Constitutional Monarchy | A King or Queen is the official head of state but power is limited by a constitution. |
| Monarchy | An individual ruler who functions as the head of state and who achieves his or her position through heredity. |
| Absolute Monarchy | In an absolute monarchy, the monarch rules with unlimited power. |
| Autocratic Monarchy | Autocratic rulers are those who have absolute power. These are the rulers who control every part of the government and sometimes even judiciary. They are also called dictators. |
