Factors that affect design
Term | Definition |

Need | Successful designs respond to genuine needs, so identifying a need is a good starting point in the design process. |
Function | Refers to the ability of a product to perform the task for which it was designed. It is what the product must be able to do in order to be successful. |
Aesthetics | Refers to the physical appearance of a product and its visual appeal to the target market. |
Finance | Refers to the amount of money required to progress the development of a product through all the phases until completion. |
Ergonomics | -an important consideration in products designed with the user in mind and aims to ensure that workplaces and products are designed to fit the workers. |
Work Health and Safety | Refers to both the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees in the workplace. |
Quality | It is closely linked to value and durability and is a measure of excellence. |
Obsolescence | Products are considered obsolete when they are replaced by a new or more attractive product that performs the same function. |
LIfe Cycle Analysis | It is an evaluation of all the resources used when designing, making, using and disposing of a product. |
Secondary function | Additional features that make a product different and preferred to competition products |
Global warming | Increases in the average land and sea temperatures on Earth |
Greenhouse gases | Gases that trap and emit heat in the atmosphere causing a greenhouse effect on the planet |
