Leif Erikson a Norse explorer from the 9th century thought to be the first European to explore North America
Ferdinand and Isabella founded a confederation and unified Spain, also created colonies in the new world through Christopher Columbus
Why Christopher Columbus' exploration was funded by Spain Columbus had no connections in Italy so he contacted Spain and they financed his voyage in hopes to find a new route for gold and spices
Ponce de Leon an explorer that joined Columbus for his second voyage and was very successful so he was sent to explore new islands and found modern-day Florida
Amerigo Vespucci an explorer of the new world for Spain and Portugal that wrote about his explorations and named the new world America
Bartolome De Las Casas a clergyman and activist from Spain in the 14th century that disagreed with the colonization of modern-day Mexico
