Civil Rights Movemen

Jim Crow Policy of segregating or discriminating against black people in the South of the US
Direct action Actions (things done) against an authority, aiming to achieve a specific result e.g. strikes and demonstrations
Civil disobedience The refusal to comply with certain laws, as a peaceful form of political protest
Civil rights The rights the citizens of a country have
Constitutional rights Legal rights granted to citizens by the Constitution of a country
Boycott A punitive ban that forbids relations with certain groups, cooperation with a policy, or handling of goods
Disenfranchisement Not having, or not being allowed, the vote
Civil protest When ordinary citizens take peaceful action against governments policies they consider to be unjust, aiming to pressure the government to change these policies
