QuestionAnswer
author's purpose (be able to apply this word) The specific reason a person has for writing (inform, to entertain, to express feelings, or opinion)
Informational giving knowledge or facts
fictional not true; made up
non-fiction true; writing that deals with real people, events, and places
main idea (be able to apply this word) the most important idea expressed in a piece of writing
metaphor (be able to apply this word) A comparison between how unlike things in which one thing becomes another thing (Ex. He's such a bear today!)
personification (be able to apply this word) A special kind of metaphor in which a nonhuman thing or quality is talked about as if it were human.
idiom (be able to apply this word) An idiom is a group of words that together mean something beyond the definitions of the individual words (Ex. It's raining cats and dogs)
Simile (be able to apply this word) a comparison between two unlike things using a word such as like, as, or resembles
mood (be able to apply this word) the overall emotion of a piece
