| Empire | Land with different territories and people under a single rule. |
| Emperor | Name of the Roman ruler during the imperial age. |
| Patricians | The nobles in Roman society. |
| Plebeians | The common people in ancient Rome. |
| Consuls | The two most powerful officials in Rome. |
| Senate | Roman officials who were appointed by the consuls. |
| Veto | To reject or prohibit actions and laws of other government officials. |
| Checks and Balances | A system that balances the distribution of power in government. |
| Latin | The language of Romans. |
| Arch | A structure that spands a spare and supports structure and height above it. |
| Aqueduct | A human made raised channel that carries water from distant places. |
| Civil Law | A legal system based on written code of laws. |
| Republic | A government in which citizens have the right to vote and elect officials. |
| Legion | Basic unit of the Roman army, each legion had from 4,500-5,000 heavily armed soldiers. |
| Maniple | Each legion was broken up into many ideas, a unit of between 60-160 Roman soldiers who farmed a solid battle line. |
| Constitution | A system of rules by which a government is organized. |
| Magistrates | Elected officials who enforce the law, broken into three branches: assembalies, senate, manistraites. |
| Tripartite Government | A government with 3 parts. Ex: assembalies, senates, manistraites. USA has legislataces, judisial, executave. |
| Province | Land by particulare control by a country. |
| Toga | Garment that adult men wore wrapped around their bodies and only senates wore them. |
| Pantheon | Roman temple dedicated to all the gods. |
| Colsseum | An outdoor amphitheater built in Rome around 70 AD. |
| Greco-Roman | Having characteristics that are part Greek and part Roman. |
| Paterfamilisa | The male head of household or family. |
| Centurion | A Roman officer in the military. |
