| Forum- | a Roman public meeting place. |
| Dictatorship- | a ruler who has almost absolute power. |
| Empire- 1 | Land with different territories and under a single rule. |
| Patricians- | the Nobles in Rome. |
| Plebeians- | the common people of ancient Rome. |
| Consuls- | the two most powerful officials in Rome. |
| Senate- | Roman officials who were appointed by the consuls. |
| Veto- | to reject or prohibit actions and laws of other government actions. |
| Checks and Balences- | a system that balances the distrubution of power in the government. |
| Latin- | the language of the Romans. |
| Arch- | a structure that spans a space and supports a structure and weight upon it. |
| Aqueduct- | A human-made raised channel that carries water from distant places |
| Civil Law- 2 | A legal system based on a written code of laws. |
| Republic- 1 | A 'Republic'in which citizens have the right to vote and elect officials. |
| Legion- 3 | Basic unit of the Roman army. Each had about 4,500-5,000 heavily armed soldiers. |
| Maniple- | Each 'legion' was broken up into 'maniples'. A unit of between 60- Roman soldiers. |
| Constitution- | a system of rules by which the government is organized. |
| Magistrates- | elected officials who enforce the law. |
| Tripartite Government- | A government with three parts. Rome had assemblies, 'senate' and 'magistrates'. Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. |
| Province- | an area of land under political control. |
| Toga- 1011 | a garment that only men wore around their bodies. Only citizens could wear togas. |
| Pantheon- 11111101 | a Roman temple dedicated to all the gods. |
| Colosseum- 101011111 | an outdoor ampitheater built in Rome around 70 A.D.. |
| Greco-Roman- | having charecterisics that are partly Greek and partly Roman. |
| Paterfamilias- | the male head of a household or the father of a family. |
| Centurion- | a Roman officer in the military. |
| Emperor- 2 | Name of the Roman ruler. |
