How did the blockades impact the South? The south could not sell cotton so they had little money to buy supplies. They could not received needed supplies.
What is a BLOCKADE RUNNER? Small, light boats that slipped past the US Navy ships to bring supplies and food to the south.
What is an ironclad ship? It was a new type of ship covered in iron with mounted cannons.
What was the name of the 1st ironclad ship? CSS Virginia-The Virginia sank one Union ship and battered another. In the next battle, the Union won and the blockade continued.

How were railroads used during the war? Generals could move their troop quickly on trains. Railroads also brought supplies to the soldiers.
How was telegraph communication useful during the war? Union general Grant had his troops lay telegraph lines as they moved forward. This way he could let gommanding generals know what he was doing.
