What were some of the various cults? the cult of the earth-mother Cybele, the worship of the Egyptian goddess Isis and, hardest of all to fathom, the mysteries of Mithras
What is the mysteries of Mithras The doctrine of resurrection of the flesh
Overall, Rome tolerated these religions unless what happened? People remained loyal to Rome and didn't appear to challenge imperial authority
What did many Jews believe about Jesus? They believed that Jesus was the Messiah and the annointed king sent by God
How does Christianity begin? It begins from the teachings of Jesus who was a Jew
How did Jesus' teachings draw a large following? It was through miricles
When did Jesus begin teaching? At the age of 30
How many people did Jesus call to be his disciples? He called 12 people
Why did Jesus call them? He called them to help with his mission
What is another word for the 12 disciples? Apostles
What does the word Apostles mean? It means 'person sent forth' in Greek
Teachings were rooted in accordance with what? Jewish belief
Jesus teaches in accordance with Jewish belief and what else did he preach? He preached new beliefs
What did Jesus call himself? He calls himself, the son of God
Some Jews regard him as a what? trouble maker
Romans began to fear Jesus, why? They became fearful because Jesus would challenge Roman rule
How was Jesus condemned to death? He was condemned to death by crucifixion
