TermDefinition
Heliocentric Model The astronomical model in which the Earth and Planets revolve around the sun at the center of the Universe.
Galileo/Telescope The purpose was so you could see the distance of objects. This Instrument made things look three time larger than they did to the naked eye.
Separation of Powers In this separation the executive,legislative,and Judicial powers of the government limit and control each other in a system of checks and balances.
Laissez Faire Laissez Faire means "to let (people) do (what they want)".
Social Contract Through a social contract an entire society agrees to be governed by its general will.
Popular sovereignty Is the principle that the authority of a state and its government are created and sustained by the consent of its people who are the source of all political powers.
American Revolution/No Taxation without Representation The colonists didn't have the right to elect representatives in parliament.So they began using the phrase as an anti-British slogan.
Federal System The federal government is composed of there distinct branches; legislative,executive,and Judicial.
Estates The assembly of the representatives of the estates of the realm, the divisions of society in feudal times,called together for purposes of deliberation,legislation,or taxation.
Bourgeoisie is a social class equivalent to the the middle or upper class.
Guillotine A machine with a heavy blade sliding vertically in grooves, use for beheading people.
Reign of Terror A period of the French Revolution that was conspicuous for mass executions of Political suspects.
Coup d'eat Sudden violent overthrew of a government
Napoleon Bonaparte French military leader and emperor who conquered much of Europe in the early 19th Century.
Nationalism Is an ideology that emphasizes loyalty,devotion to a nation and holds that such obligations outweigh other individual or group interest.
Entrepreneurs A person who organizes and operates a business taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.
Industrial Capitalism An economic and political system in which property, business, and industry are controlled by private owners rather than by the state.
Socialism Is a social economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources.
Universal Male Suffrage Was a term generally used to support the right to vote for all adults, regardless of race or gender.
Emancipation The fact of being set free from legal, social, or political restriction; liberation.
Abolitionism Is the movement to end slavery
Caudillos The leader of a political faction,often linked to a band or armed men.
Natural Selection Is the differential survivals and reproduction of individuals due to differences in phenotype.
Mass production The manufacturing of large quantities of standardized products often using assembly lines
Assembly line Manufacturing the process in which individual parts of a large product are put together in a specific order.
Proletariat The lower or working class , the members of which mus under capitalism sell their labor in order to earn a living.
Feminism the advocacy of womens rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes
Social Darwinism The idea that certain people become powerful in society because they are innately better.
Anti-semitism Hostility to or prejudice against jewish people
Zionism A nationalist movement that espouses establishment of and support for a homeland for jewish people.
