MCA Vocab Review 1

TermDefinition
(Intended) Audience The group of people the author thinks will read his/her writing
Article A nonfiction, usually informative piece of writing
Authors Message The author’s main purpose or theme
Compare Find similarities (find things that are almost the same)
Contrast Find differences
Event Something usually of importance that happens (in a passage)
Fact Something you know is true
Figurative Language Words used to describe in a unique way, for example: Simile, Metaphor…
Give Evidence Explain why (give proof) using information from the text – a statement is a fact/opinion, list reasons to support an opinion
Highlight To mark text (usually ideas related to answering a question) with a highlighter pen
Interpretation To explain what you think the passage means
Lines (in poetry) A row of words, usually numbered
