Was reconstruction successful? Reconstruction was somewhat successful, it united the nation. Even though the South still had very divided opinions the union was fixed.
What was in Lincoln's 10% plan Lincoln's 10% plan included giving amnesty to confederate soldiers but not the leaders and 10% of each state had to swear loyalty to the union to rejoin the union.
What was the Freedmen's Bureau? A government agency that helped the freedmen get things they needed like, jobs, food, shelter, a public schools system and medical care.
What was the 13th amendment? The amendment stated that slavery was abolished and could only be used for a punishment for a crime.
Who assassinated Lincoln? John Wakes Booth assassinated Lincoln on April 15th 1865.
What was the Civil Rights act of 1866? This act declared the Black Codes illegal and gave African Americans rights as citizens.
What were the Black Codes? The Black Codes were laws in the South made to restrict the Freedmen's rights without violating the constitution.
What were some examples of Black Codes? AA couldn't vote or serve on juries,AA couldn't against whites in court,AA couldn't move without consent of employer,AA could only work as servants or on a farm,public places were segregated,AA were required to sign 1yr labor contracts with employer,etc
What was the 14th amendment? An amendment that declared, anyone born in the U.S. is a citizen and has citizen's rights.
What was the 15th amendment? The 15th amendment stated that all AA could have the right to vote and no could be denied the right to vote based off of race.
What was in Johnson's reconstruction plan? In Johnson's reconstruction plan all states had to ratify the 13th amendment, 50% of each state had to swear loyalty to the nation, and former confederate leaders could vote and hold office.
What did the radical's think of Johnson's plan? They thought he was going way to easy on the south.
What was in the Radical Reconstruction plan? The radicals wanted to disband the southern state's governments, wanted the South to be broken into military districts, all states had to ratify the 14th amendment, and they wanted to make all the southern states make new constitutions.
Why was Johnson impeached? He violated the Tenure of office act.
What was the Tenure of office act?? The tenure of office act was a law that was made to stop presidents from removing certain office holders without the senate's permission.
What was the compromise of 1877? A compromise that settled the election of 1867.
What was the emancipation proclamation? It was a proclamation that was Lincoln trying to get the south to come back.
What happened because of the Comprise of 1877? Hayes got to be president but he had to remove the federal troops from Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina.
Did the emancipation proclamation end slavery? No, it did not.
What were the border states? The border states were, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia Kentucky and Missouri.
