Consequences of divorce for men advantage of better financial standing- men typically make more money than women, greater freedom -children tend to live w/ mothers after divorces, difficulty in maintaining a household routine, erratic eating, sleeplessness, &household work, &loneliness

Effects of divorce on children loss of father-figure, emotional scars from family uncertainty & conflict, enforced separation from one of their parents, less economic sources in single-mother household causing movement of school or home, behavior problems, decline in school performance
How can the way families are organized work to encourage conflict? families are a power system with an unequal distribution of power between parents, children, and spouses, many events in which families can dispute, the common belief that that the home is private
The rule in our society that the home is private has 2 negative consequences... isolates family members from the protection of society if a family member becomes too abusive and rule of privacy often prevents victims of abuse from seeking outside help
