What happened in 1950 regarding the arms race? 1)Truman orders AEC to create a powerful Hydrogen bomb 2) NSC-68 report says US needs to step up offensive weapons and spend more on defense
How did the Korean War start (1950)? 1) Japan used to control Korea but after war the SU supervised the North & US supervised the South 2) Kim II Sung (communist leaders) crosses 38th parallel & attacks South Korea & captures Seoul 3) Soviet Union may have encouraged the invasion
How did US respond to Korean War? 1) Truman goes to UN & asks them to approve a police action, not a declaration of war 2) SU can’t use veto because they’re boycotting UN since it refused to offer a seat to Mao Zedong
Fighting in Korea 1) Gen Mcarthur leads UN/US army near Seoul & pushes successfully pushes enemies back into NK 2) Troops get to China border & China attacks & pushes troops all the way back to SK 3) Mcarthur wants to bomb border of China, but Truman says no & fires him
How did Korean War end? 1) Cease fire, treaty has never been signed to officially end it. 2) Communism did not spread to SK
