GOLF TERMINOLOGY
| Term | Definition |

| Par | Hitting a ball into a hole in the number of shots/ strokes allowed, say 3/3, 4/4, 5/5. PRETTY good, average. |
| Bogey | Hitting a ball into a hole in 'one over' the number of shots/ strokes allowed, say 4/3, 5/4, 6/5. Not cool, BOGUS. |
| Birdie | Hitting a ball into a hole in 'one under' the number of shots/ strokes allowed, say 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 (Something to TWEET about) |
| Eagle | Hitting a ball into a hole in 'two under' the shots/ strokes allowed, say 1/3, 2/4, 3/5 (Must have SOARED in there) |
| Green | Smooth flat patch of GREEN GRASS where the hole and the flag are located. |
| Hole-in-One | Hitting a ball into a HOLE in one shot/ stroke. |
| Wood/ driver | The 'heaviest club' because it has a head which is used for DISTANCE (DRIVE the ball off the tee and onto the fairway). |
| Irons | Also known as mid-range clubs, these METAL CLUBS clubs are used on the fairway and are used more for ACCURACY. |
| Putt | A tap or PUT-IN shot, usually from the green and hopefully into the hole. |
| Fore | YELLed when you 'shank'/ hit poorly the ball and think it may hit another golfer. |
| Caddie | Person, or robot that CARRIES the golf clubs, socializes, and helps the golfer choose their golfer when they ask. |
| Tee box | The area where you set the TEE up, the ball on the tee, and then hit the ball with a driver to START the hole. |
| Fringe | FLUFF grass area around the green that helps the ball slow down before and after the green. |
| Rough | An area of grass that is RUGGED and meant to slow down your ball and also get it stuck (use iron: pitching wedge to get ouf of it) |
| Mulligan | a RE-DO for a MILLION. Used in non- competitive games for fun. |
| Slice | Hit the ball off the tee and it starts LEFT and GOES RIGHT (opposite for lefties) |
| Hook | Hit the ball off the tee and it starts RIGHT and GOES LEFT (opposite for lefties) |
| Bunker | A BOGUS pit or hole made for the ball to fall into, usually filled with sand (need to use iron: sand wedge to get out of) |
| Hazard | HAIRY spots recognized as water, woods or even a swamp -- > the original ball is not coming back and you take another ball and 'drop' it by where it was lost. The ball is played where it 'lies' |
| Golf | A GAME where people spend lots of money to hit a ball 300 yards to fall into a cup in hopefully 3-4 shots... |
| Fairway | IN a nice WAY to be after hittimg the ball onto the course from out of the tee box. |
