Causes of Revolution

TermDefinition
French & Indian War The war between Britain & France for control of North America. Started over territory and the fur trade.
Stamp Act 1765 - This taxed almost all printed materials like Wills, Newspapers, and even playing cards.
Proclamation Line of 1763 This prohibited (stopped) Colonist from settling anywhere West of the Appalachian Mountains. Prevented Colonist from going onto Native lands.
Townshend Act Tax on imported goods; glass, tea, and paper. The tax was paid before goods were sold to colonist.
Boston Tea Party Protest for the Tea Act (tax on tea & British control of tea trade), Colonist threw 342 chests
Sugar Act 1764 - Lowered tax on molasses that the colonist used. Allowed British Officers to take goods from accused smugglers.
Boston Massacre An encounter between colonist in Boston and British soldiers. Soldiers killed 5 colonist when fighting broke out.
Intolerable Acts 1774 - A series of laws called the Coercive Acts. Meant to punish colonist for resisting British authority. Colonists believed laws violated their rights.
