why is the judicial idea of "innocent until proven guilty" an important concept? | it promoted equal justice for all by making the accuser prove someones guilt; instead of the person having to prove that they were innocent |
why is "trial by jury" an important concept? | no bias- it's a group that is judging instead of just one person |
why is citizen participation an important part of democracy? | if citizens don't participate in a democracy, then it's not a democracy |
why is it important that people in a democracy are able to discuss controversial issues in a civil way? | if people don't discuss controversial issues, it creates more problems. Instead of improving stuff, hostility, distrust, and rifts in society grow until the country is destroyed. |
