Cotton Gin Increased the amount of cotton produced a day to 50 lbs. because it sped up the process of removing the seeds from the cotton
Memphis Called the Cotton Capital of the South because so many framers traded cotton/slaves there
Deep South Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, and they relied the most on the production of cotton
Slave Codes They were passed by plantation owners to discipline/punish slaves
Spirituals They were sung by slaves because they needed a way to express their faith
