Monroe Doctrine America's foreign policy that said all of Europe was no longer allowed to colonize the Western Hemisphere.
Latin America AKA Mexico, and Central and South America
Adams-Onis Treaty An agreement that stated Spain would give Florida to the United States.

Eli Whitney Invented the cotton gin and came up with the concept of interchangeable parts.
Telegraph A device that sent signals across long distances using Morse Code.
Irish Immigrants that worked with railroads and canals. They lived in northeastern cities.
German Immigrants that lived on the Midwest farms.
Emigrant A person leaving another country
Immigrant A person moving to a country
Potato Famine Blight formed on the potatoes causing the death of millions of Irish.
Era of Good Feelings A time of political peace during James Monroe's presidency.
American System Henry Clay introduced an economic system where the economy had to grow, so that it would become self-sufficient.

Erie Canal A man made waterway that connected the Great Lakes to NYC.
Nationalism feeling proud in one's country
Sectionalism feeling proud of one's region
Tariff A tax on imports. It was passed to protect American manufacturing.
Infrastructure A country's system of transportation and communication.
Cotton Gin A device that helped speed up the process of removing seeds from the cotton plant.
Memphis The capital of cotton in the south. Farmers would trade cotton along the Mississippi.
Deep South Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, GA, SC, and Texas produced and relied the most on cotton.
Slave Codes Laws passed by states to govern and punish slaves for their behavior.
Spirituals Religious songs sung by slaves to show their faith.
