Potato Famine Caused the Irish to have many people that died, the potatos were not healthy to eat because they caused sickness
Era of Good Feelings When Monroe was president, there were no conflicts, making that period of time peaceful. The Federalist Party had died down.
America System Henry Clay introduced this system to try to make America self- sufficient
Henry Clay Worked in Kentucky's Congress; Proposed the ides of the American System
Erie Canal Connected the Great Lakes to NYC. Was made by people, not machines
Nationalism The feeling of loving your country and taking pride in it
Sectionalism The feeling of love for a certain area of the country, rather than the whole country
Tariff A tax that was placed on imported goods; The idea was to protect the American manufacturing
Infrastructure Communication and the act of transporting that a nation has
Cotton Gin A machine that helped slaves pick the seeds from the cotton faster; Was made by Eli Whitney
Memphis Where trade was abundant with cotton. Was called the cotton capital of the nation.
Deep South The southern states that grew the most cotton. This included Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama
Slave Codes Laws passed by the south to humble and rule over the slaves
Spirituals What the slaves sang while working that gave them hope on one day being freed; They were Christian.
