Physical Geography of the United States & Canada

TermDefinition
Physical Geography Earth's natural geographic features such as landforms, bodies of water, climate, soil, and plant life.
Appalachian Mountains The main mountain range in the eastern United States.
Great Lakes Largest group of freshwater lakes in the world. They are also an important waterway for trade between the United States & Canada.
Mississippi River The largest and most important river in North America
Tributary A smaller stream or river that flows into a larger stream or river.
Rocky Mountains The most rugged mountains in the United States. They are located in the West and extend all the way up into Canada.
Continental Divide A line of high mountain peaks that divide the flow of rivers toward opposite ends of the continent.
Climate long time pattern of weather in a particular area.
Natural Rsources Materials from the Earth that are used to support people's life & meet their needs.
Natural Hazard An extreme event that happens naturally and causes harm to humans
St. Lawrence River Links the great lakes to the Atlantic Ocean
Canadian Shield Covers almost half of Canada, it is a region of rocky uplands, lakes, and swamps.
Niagara Falls Waterfalls located on the Niagara river between the Canadian province of Ontario and New York.
