Why did the British want to expand their control into the Ohio Valley in the mid-1700s? to gain access tot he region's natural resources
What helped the American colonists win the revolution? familiarity with the geography, alliances with other nations, and unification through shared ideas and ideals
How did the Stamp Act contribute to the Boston Massacre? Colonists angered by British taxes took out their frustrations on British troops, which eventually lead to the massacre.
How did the Intolerable Acts affect the American colonies? the acts caused the colonies to unify against the British government.
Why was capturing Quebec so important to the British during the French and Indian War? By gaining control of Quebec, the British would disrupt French supplies from reaching forts further north.
What central argument did the colonists have against the Stamp Act? that it is not he amount of tax that is the problem but rather the fact that the colonists were not involved in passing the tax.
What event led tot he first shots being fired at the battles of Lexington and Concord? The attempt by the British to seize colonial military stores.

How were French forts distributed across North America? Most of the forts were placed to defend French territory from European colonial expansion.
How were British and Colonial armies different? The British used traditional methods of fighting while the Americans used more unconventional methods.
How does Abigail Adams use the ideas of the patriots to support her cause? By claiming that women have the right to rebel if they do not have a voice in government.
What effect did the capture of Fort Ticonderoga have on the fighting in Boston between the American colonials and the British? The British left Boston when they saw the fort's military weapons positioned on Dorchester Heights.
What effect did Thomas Paine's Common Sense have on American Colonists? They strengthened the colonists' desire to act on their wishes to separate from Britain.
What actions by the British and the southern Loyalists caused many colonists to side the the Patriots? carrying out brutal attacks during the campaign in the Carolinas
