7 Principles Const.

TermDefinition
checks and balances Each branch of government can exercise a control over other branches,
Federalism A system of government in which power is divided between a central government and state governments.
separation of powers Dividing the government in to 3 branches; not one branch is given all the control.
limited government The government only has those powers given to it by law under the Constitution.
Republicanism A government based on the consent of the people.
individual rights The freedoms given to each person to pursue their lives and goals without interference from other individuals or the government.
Popular Sovereignty People exercise their power by voting for political representatives; voting to elect people into office.
