| Khemet | Ancient egyptian name for their land (it means black land) |
| Levees | A bank (high pile of dirt) built along s river to prevent flooding |
| mummification | the process of preserving the bodies of the dead |
| Nobles | people belonging to a high class that has special social or political status |
| obelisks | a four sided pillar that ends in a pyramid used as monument |
| papyrus | A plant that is made into strips and pressed into material on which a person can write |
| peasants | People in a low ranking social class, who worked in the fields |
| Pharaoh | The ruler of ancient Egypt |
| pyramid | A huge structure that was used as a tomb for the Egyptian Pharaoh and high officials |
| shaduf | A device for lifting water |
| social pyramid | Shows each social class in level of importance |
| sphinx | Ancient Egyptian monument with the body of a lion and the head of a man |
| vizier | A high official in the government |
