Barge | A broad, flat bottomed boat. |
Cartouche | a carved tablet representing a scroll. ( a roll of paper) with rolled up ends. |
Harpoon | A barbed spear, used for hunting large fish. |
Hieroglyphics | Writing made up of pictographic (picture) symbols. |
Khemet | Ancient Egyptian name for their land (it means "black land") |
levees | A bank (high pile of dirt) built along a river to prevent flooding |
mummification | The process of preserving the bodies of the dead |
nobles | People belonging to a high class that has special social or political status |
obelisks | A four-sided pillar that ends in a pyramid, used as a monument |
papyrus | A plant that is made into strips and pressed into material on which a person can write |
Peasants | People in a low ranking social class, who worked in the fields. |
Pharaoh | The ruler of ancient Egypt |
Pyramid | A huge structure that was used as a tomb for the Egyptian Pharaoh and high offcials. |
Shaduf | A device for lifting water. |
Social Pyramid | Shows each social class in level of importance. |
Sphinx | Ancient Egyptian monument with the body of a lion and the head of a man. |
Vizier | A high official in the government. |
