| Barge | A broad, flat bottomed boat. |
| Cartouche | a carved tablet representing a scroll. ( a roll of paper) with rolled up ends. |
| Harpoon | A barbed spear, used for hunting large fish. |
| Hieroglyphics | Writing made up of pictographic (picture) symbols. |
| Khemet | Ancient Egyptian name for their land (it means "black land") |
| levees | A bank (high pile of dirt) built along a river to prevent flooding |
| mummification | The process of preserving the bodies of the dead |
| nobles | People belonging to a high class that has special social or political status |
| obelisks | A four-sided pillar that ends in a pyramid, used as a monument |
| papyrus | A plant that is made into strips and pressed into material on which a person can write |
| Peasants | People in a low ranking social class, who worked in the fields. |
| Pharaoh | The ruler of ancient Egypt |
| Pyramid | A huge structure that was used as a tomb for the Egyptian Pharaoh and high offcials. |
| Shaduf | A device for lifting water. |
| Social Pyramid | Shows each social class in level of importance. |
| Sphinx | Ancient Egyptian monument with the body of a lion and the head of a man. |
| Vizier | A high official in the government. |
