| Term | Definition |

| Acculturation | When one culture blends into another culture. This happens a lot when families move from one country to a new country- they start to take on the new country's culture and let go of their old country's culture. |
| Apartheid | A policy of discriminating against black people in South Africa. The country has/had systems to keep black and white people separate. |
| Assimilation | When a minority group becomes more like the majority (bigger) group It's very similar to acculturation |
| Coalition | A team-up between people in politics who usually don't get along to get something done |
| Commodity | A product that can be bought and sold Example: One of Michigan's biggest commodities is apples. |
| Deforestation | Clearing forest land to use the trees for their wood |
| Democracy | Choosing political leaders by citizens voting |
| Diffusion | The spread of culture from one area or group of people to another Example: Anime (Japanese animation) becoming popular in America |
| Diversify | When a community gets more culture groups living there; a bigger variety of people from different places and races. |
| Economy | The wealth of a country and how that wealth is handled by people and their government |
| Entrepaneur | A person who starts a business |
| Euro | The type of money used in most countries in Europe |
| Export | The products a country makes and sells to other countries China exports lots of stuff France exports cheese Saudi Arabia exports oil |
| Free enterprise | A system where government doesn't put rules on businesses |
| Global Economy | All the buying, selling, and trading between countries |
| Gross Domestic Product | The total amount of money a country makes each year |
| Illiteracy | the number of people in a country who can't read |
| Industrialization | the growth of different industries in a country. When a country adds factories and can make more things. |
| Infrastructure | The set of systems in a country to support the people who lives there Examples: sewer system, telephone poles, electricity |
